- [SUCCESS STORY from Krk Island:100th Anniversary of Punat Shipyard](https://insuleur.eu/cost-of-living-competitiveness/success-story-from-krk-island100th-anniversary-of-punat-shipyard/): President Heri Bezić and his associates from the CCE Rijeka County Chamber attended the 100th Anniversary ceremony of Punat shipyard on the island of Krk, Croatia.The Punat shipyard is one of the oldest shipyards on the Adriatic. The history of the shipyard dates back to 1922 when the founder and first owner of the Shipyard Nikola Zoric, on an area of 1654 m2, with 11 workers started shipbuilding on the island of Krk. Most of the time, wooden motor yachts of the capacity up to 350 tons were built on only two slipways. They were barges, leuts, cargo ships, fishing boats and yachts - all made of wood, for which this shipyard became widely known.In the eighties of the last century, the Punat shipyard became the largest shipyard for the construction of wooden ships in Croatia. The foundations of the future shipyard were laid. Punat shipyard was privatized in 1994 and since 2001 has been majority - owned by Marina Punat.

This lack of consistency shows that the principles laid down in Article 174 TFEU have not been translated into specific budgetary provisions for islands.

Among them, the Geographical Indications Scheme, comprising Protected Designations of Origin (PDO), Protected Geographical Indications (PGI) and Geographical indications (GI), confers intellectual property rights, granting the right to producers in a defined geographical area to use the registered name if they comply with a product specification. Alongside the Geographical Indications Scheme, the Traditional Specialities Guaranteed scheme (TSG) attests traditional production methods and can be produced anywhere as long as the producers comply with the corresponding product specification

However, such products are often an important part of local identity, attract tourism and create jobs. A uniform system would in particular:

In 2015, DG Mare had defined the blue economy as any market activity that is intrinsically linked to the sea and covers: (1) primary sectors such as transport (shipbuilding, shipping), energy (oil, gas, and renewable energy), food (fisheries, aquaculture), and coastal tourism; (2) secondary sectors (e.g. insurance) which provide goods and services to these primary sectors; and (3) smaller sectors such as marine aggregation extraction or communication cable laying . Crowdfunding can be a vehicle through which new ideas in the Blue Economy can be financed, as it is an innovative concept that connects entrepreneurs and potential investors through an online platform (Golic, 2014).

- [Public consultation on Review of the Regional Aid Guidelines (RAG) 2014-2020](https://insuleur.eu/current-consultations/public-consultation-on-review-of-the-regional-aid-guidelines-rag-2014-2020/): In 2019, the Commission launched an evaluation of the regional aid framework in the context of the Fitness Check of the 2012 State aid modernisation package to assess if the regional aid guidelines were still fit for purpose. The preliminary results showed that the rules worked in principle well, but require some improvements to reflect economic developments. Based on these evaluation results, the guidelines were revised, also taking new policy objectives into account.

Delegates from Malta, Greece, Spain, France, Italy and, Jersey participated in the events.During the General Assembly on the 24th October, which was reserved solely for INSULEUR members, core issues such as "Blue Growth and Islands" and VAT regulations arose, while among the subjects having been discussed were a proposal for revisions to the state aid framework that would target islands' needs as well as the issue of refugees and immigrants. This year's Forum was devoted to "the Digital Transformation of European Islands". In particular, the association and interconnectivity between insular economies and digitilisation was thoroughly examined. Furthermore, keynote speeches included initiatives of insular chambers with respect to digitalization on insular economies and SMEs, and the development of a strategy towards digitalization for EU islands.
